The NKBA Business & Leadership Conference Session explores key issues and essential skills needed to be successful in the marketplace.

The Hummer and the Mini:
Navigating the Contradictions of the New Trend Landscape

Robyn Waters

This presentation addresses the contradictory nature of the consumer and makes a case for the power of paradox. The 'next big thing' is in reality many different things, and it's not unusual for complete opposites to be deemed trendy at the same time. Trend/Countertrend explores the polarity of macro trends influencing the marketplace. Robyn Waters had over 30 years experience tracking and translating trends into sales and profit. As Target's former Vice President of Trend, Design and Product Development, she helped a small regional discount chain become a national fashion destination. Her visual presentations challenge the audience to look at trend 'from the inside out' by focusing their attention on what's important instead of just what's next.

The NKBA Technology & Trends Conference Session offers insight into developments in the industry, as well as forecasts for the future of kitchen and bath design and function.

Green Remodeling: Changing the World One Room at a Time
A Focus on Kitchens & Baths

David Johnston

Millions of North Americans are renovating their homes every year, spending more money annually on renovation than on new home construction. But renovations can be fraught with unintended consequences like indoor air pollution. How do you remodel in a healthy, environmentally friendly way? David Johnston of What's Working, Inc. presents the advantages for remodeling in a more environmentally friendly manner. A leading thinker behind the green building movement, Johnston's approach to green building has been embraced by municipalities, homeowners, building professionals and sustainability advocates. Learn how green remodeling can be more energy-efficient, more resource conserving, healthier for occupants and more affordable to create, operate and maintain.

The NKBA Design & Inspiration Conference Session strives to motivate attendees to discover new solutions to classic design challenges.
