2nd Place Bathroom
Designer: Kara Lynn Eastham

The unique and wonderful characteristics
of the existing space in the barn inspired
Kara’s theme of a rustic environment. She
wanted to create a “spa-like” ambiance,
define the space within the barn and maintain an
open atmosphere.
Kara’s design was created to allow for “more
flow between spaces.” The use of glass around
the shower and the sauna allows for light from
the skylights to filter into the room as a whole.
The only doors in the space are on a track
system that hangs from the ceiling. The track
doors are stylized after traditional barn doors
seen on an exterior. The track system allows for
more flow between spaces and “eliminates any
obstruction that is typically found with the use
of a door-swing.”
The beverage center and storage were incorporated
in both the bathroom and the exercise
area. This was done to provide unity to
the space. The bathroom was placed to take
advantage of the soothing illumination from
the skylights. In addition, full-spectrum bulbs
were scattered throughout the space for lumen
therapy. Aromatherapy is provided by using a
hand-blown glass nebulizer-diffuser.
Kara also used soothing colors greens and
blues, with warming hints of copper. The cabinetry
resembles a piece of furniture to make the
space personal and comfortable.
